Doing jobs and mastering them are important aspects of the game. When you complete Mafia Wars jobs you get a number of items that are very important for the game: money, experience, loot and skill points. The cost of doing jobs is energy so the more energy you have available the quicker you will be able to master the jobs.

Your character level in the game limits what level of jobs you are able to work on. For example, when you start out you are considered a Street Thug so you can only do the jobs that a Street Thug is capable of doing. As you progress through the jobs your level will go up and subsequent job tiers will open up for you.

Each Mafia Wars jobs tier has a number of different jobs on it. Master all of the jobs in the tier and you master the tier. You get one skill point for each job mastered.

You can master a tier up to three times to get additional bonuses. For the first tier, mastering it a second time give you a five percent increase in loot dropped for that tier, master it a third time and that increases to ten percent. You can repeat the jobs as often as you like, even after you have completely mastered the tier. This is helpful later one when you are working on increasing your level and want to do jobs that give you the most experience for the least amount of points.

You also get a new title for each job tier you master. The title goes by your character name. For example, when you start out as a “Street Thug ” but when you master the first tier a second time you become a Skilled Street Thug.

The first four levels of jobs also have a boss fight which you can do. This is optional and not completing it will not impede your progress in the game. The main difference over normal Mafia Wars jobs is that you can lose health during the fight.

Jobs also require items and some of these require that you be at a certain level to get. Most of the item you can purchase or you will end up getting as loot. The Enforcer Tier is a little different for some of the jobs because you have a job preparation that you have to do in order to get the item or items required for the job. This is just another job but gives you no cash reward. For example, the Liquor Smuggling Job requires that you do the Distill Some Liquor job first. You will have to repeat the process each time you want to do the job so it can take some time (and energy) to complete these jobs.
